James "Mac" S. McInerney, 67, passed away on January 9, 2022. Born on April 6, 1954, in Kansas City, Missouri, to James and Annabel McInerney, he was a graduate of Bishop Hogan High School. Mac went on to attend Benedictine College, becoming a member of the Ravens football team. Following his passion, he transferred to the University of Iowa to pursue a degree in film production.
As with most everything in life, Mac went all in. After graduation, he accepted a position with Calvin Company, a Kansas City based film production company before moving on to AT&T. From its corporate headquarters in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, Mac worked as a writer, producer, and director, receiving several awards for his creative contributions.
In the early 1990s, his career was cut short as he began his battle against an aggressive brain cancer. Although victorious, his bout with cancer did not leave him unscathed. Mac was left with lifelong disabilities. While physically limited, his will to succeed and determination to live life to the fullest were undiminished. He never complained about his situation, instead, accepting life on lifes terms.
He was an inspiration to those who knew him, overcoming many obstacles to remain largely independent and active in his community. Mac was a faithful volunteer at St. Joseph Medical Center for years. He cherished summers at the ocean alongside his family. He loved cooking, grilling, dinners with family and friends, the occasional cigar and the not-so-occasional scotch. Mac was a joy to be around.
Mac is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his children Kendra Boesdorfer (Brent), Ryan, and Emily, brother Vincent P. McInerney, sister Mary Hansen (Jory), four grandchildren Connor, Benjamin, George, and Collin, nephew Jory (Allison) and nieces Liz (Dayton) and Claire.
Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, January 17th at St. Elizabeths Church, 2 E. 75th St., Kansas City, MO. A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Elizabeths Church.
