James 'Jim' D. Armstrong

March 13, 1949 — July 4, 2022

James "Jim" D. Armstrong, 73, of Lenexa, KS, passed away peacefully on July 4th, 2022. Jim was born on March 13, 1949, in Kansas City, MO, and grew up in nearby Sugar Creek, MO. As a young man, Jim became active in the Boy Scouts of America achieving the rank of Eagle Scout as well as being a Hardway Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

While serving in the United States Navy, Jim traveled the world. In 1972, shortly after enlisting in the Navy, Jim married his sweetheart, Connie Oldham, and they started a family. Jim was stationed in Greece, Florida, Virginia, and Iowa before making his way back to the Kansas City area in 1991. During his career in the Navy, Jim completed a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Jim earned numerous awards in the Navy and retired as a decorated Lieutenant Commander after serving his country for 21 years.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman and passed this interest on to his children. Jim and Connie enjoyed traveling and camping together around the country. As a talented craftsman, Jim made his own fishing rods and never met a DIY job he couldnt tackle. Jims favorite fishing spot was Bennett Springs and he enjoyed camping and hunting with friends. He will be missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years Connie (Oldham); son James "Jimmy" (Rachy) Armstrong; son Matthew "Matt" (Carmelle) Armstrong; daughter Kelly (Scott) Sime; three grandchildren Olive Armstrong, Owen Sime and Charlotte Sime; and sister Sylvia (Roger) Parsons.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Missouri Department of Conservation.
