James Vincent “Jim” Hogan, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on May 28, 2026, at his residence.

Jim was born on May 5, 1941, and was known to his close friends as “Buck.” He lived a full and meaningful life defined by hard work, sharp wit, and deep loyalty to his family and friends.

He began his career working in the family business, Sitka Store Fixtures, and later founded his own construction company, Harper Companies. Jim was a renowned builder, carpenter, and true “fixer of all things.” His sharp sense of humor was only matched by his remarkable ability to solve even the most complex mechanical problems and construction challenges.

Jim proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He was also a longtime volunteer and supporter of Welcome House, reflecting his quiet commitment to giving back to the addiction recovery community.

He had a deep appreciation for friendship and life’s simple pleasures, and was often found savoring good conversation, “great craic,” and a drink among friends at his favorite haunts—Kelly’s Westport Inn, John McGrew’s shop, or the warmth of his own home.

Jim is survived by his brother, Earl A. Hogan, Jr., his nephew and godson, Dan Hogan; nieces Kathleen Hogan Wendland, Peggy Hogan Everhart, Kelly Hogan Randall, and Emily Hogan Houzouris; nephews Bill, John, David Mauer, and Michael Hogan; sisters-in-law JoMarie Hogan (Earl) and Mary Hogan (Michael); and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl A. Hogan, Sr. and Adah Hogan; his brother Michael J. Hogan and his sister Martha Hogan O’Donnell.

Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially by his nephew Danny and his many long-time friends.
