With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Ignacia De La Rosa Villa, who passed away peacefully on March 17th, 2026, surrounded by her family at the age of 87, to join her Lord and Savior in Heaven.
Ignacia lived a life deeply rooted in Catholic faith, seeking God in all things, dedicated to being a homemaker and taking care of her grandchildren. She was born on November 17th, 1938, in Carlsbad, NM to Octaviano & Isabel (Dominguez) De La Rosa. Ignacia married the love of her life, Juan Holguin Villa, on June 13th, 1956, right after he completed his service with the U.S. Army.
In addition to her parents, Ignacia was preceded in death by her husband Juan Villa, son Sammy Villa and daughter Sarah Villa, along with her four brothers and seven sisters. She is survived by her daughter & son in-law, Sandra and Tim Castillo of Kansas City MO; daughter Sonya Villa of Carlsbad NM, her sisters, Lucy Gomez of Santa Ana, CA & Virginia Saiz of Lubbock, TX; her beloved seven grandchildren: Candace Sisneros, Robin Sisneros, Andrew Castillo, Esteban Castillo, Vanessa Madrid, Hyleen Hernandez & RJ Hernandez, as well as her eight great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many other dear family and friends who will sadly miss her.
Through her 87 years, she touched the lives of many with her wisdom, humor, sarcasm and love. She will be remembered for her presence, her love and devotion to her family, and the life and legacy she helped build. Among the years of her well-lived life she enjoyed doing word search puzzles, spending time with family and having coffee with her sisters-in-law who brought her joy and laughter. Her smile was a reflection of life filled with love and happiness that traveled to her eyes, creating crinkles that told a thousand stories, and the deep resilience of what a single lifetime seems to allow.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 25th, 2026, at San Jose Catholic Church in Carlsbad, NM. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at the Carlsbad Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a reception immediately following at the San Jose Parish Hall.
And the dust returns to earth as it was,
And the spirit returns to God who gave it.
