Harry Jacob Walter Ii

Harry J. Walter II, 88, former construction executive, passed away Friday, May 25.
Visitation will be at St. Peters Catholic Church, 6415 Holmes, KCMO, Friday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed immediately by Mass and burial at Calvary Cemetery.
Harry was born May 4, 1930, to Eugene J. (Bud) Walter and Kathleen (McCarthy) Walter.
Harry graduated from St. Peters Elementary School in 1943, Rockhurst High School in 1947 and St. Louis University in 1951.
He served as gunnery officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Taney off the coast of Korea during the Korean War. He was later attached to Fort Mason near San Francisco and served with Naval Intelligence.
In 1954, he returned to Kansas City to work for and eventually run E.J. Walter Plastering Co., a commercial and industrial plastering firm. Harry expanded the company beyond plastering into a full-service wall and ceiling subcontractor.
Notable projects undertaken by the firm under his leadership include the Harry S Truman Library and Crown Center. KU Medical Center, Menningers in Topeka and St. Joseph Hospital are among the more than 300 hospitals built by the firm. Harry was very active locally and internationally in construction associations, serving in numerous leadership positions.
He enjoyed playing golf and was a former member of Blue Hills Country Club, and the Kansas City Club. He loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in athletics. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs (purchasing season tickets in 1963) and KU basketball fan.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, son E.J. Walter III, brother E.J. Walter Jr., and ex-wife Joan Alderman Walter.
Harry is survived by four sons, two daughters, and two daughters-in-law: Harry Walter III (Kathy), Wichita; John Walter (Lori), Lake Winnebago; Brad Walter, KCMO; Andrea Pointer, Shawnee Mission; Brooke Walter, Overland Park; and Craig Walter, KCMO. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren; his beloved sister Mary Margaret Schmidt (Rudy), Raymore; sister-in-law Beth Walter, Little Rock; ex-wife Donna Walter and her daughter Kelly Lattimore, Cameron, MO.
