Harold was born September 5, 1931 in Harrison County, Iowa to Hans and Mary (Emge) Hanson. Harold was the seventh of eight children raised on the family farm. He began his education in a one room school house and completed his high school education by graduating from St. Joseph High School in Dunlap, Iowa in 1949. He served his country during the Korean War by serving in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Hollister. After his service, he worked as a counselor at Boys Town, Omaha Nebraska. While he was working there he was reacquainted with Margaret "Peggy" Langenfeld. She soon became the love of his life. They married November 30, 1957.
Soon they were joined by children Jim, Phil and Maureen. After living in Omaha and Wichita, they settled in Kansas City, MO in 1962. Soon, their son Pat joined the family. Harold and Peggy were founding members of St. John Francis Regis Parish. Harold worked various sales positions in Kansas City and ended his career at Construction Plastics.
His faith manifested itself in his service to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Radio and numerous services to his parish. Family was important to Harold. The Hanson and Langenfeld Family Reunions were never missed and weddings were a high priority. Fortunately, he was able to attend his grandson Conors wedding three weeks ago.
Harold was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Peggy; his parents, four brothers, two sisters and a grandson, Thomas Riley. Harold is survived by his brother Dan of Crescent Iowa; his children, Jim Hanson (Shelly), Phil Hanson (Nancy), Maureen Riley (Michael), and Pat Hanson; grandchildren Courtney (Matt), Aaron, Nick (Tara), Tiffany, Sean (Bridget), Mark, Conor (Caitlin), John (Sarah), Colleen, Katie, Cole and Cory; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Harold is once again joined with Peggy and is serenading her with the song from Singing in the Rain, "You were meant for me and I was meant for you."
