Gerard T. Wickey

May 30, 1938 — December 31, 2019

Jerry was born in Kansas City, Kansas on May 30, 1938 to Harold and Mary as the 4th of 5 children: Donna, Harold, JoAnn, Gerard and Carol. He attended St. Agnes grade school and graduated in 1956 from Maur Hill High School, where he was an athlete in several sports. He attended Benedictine College and served in the Kansas Army National Guard. After that he worked as a driver for Yellow Cab Company and then spent the majority of his working years in the landscaping business.
On July 18, 1964 he married his wife of 40 years, Mary. Together they raised 3 great kids. As a father, it was important to Jerry that he instilled good virtues and values in their children. Jerry loved going on family vacations, spending time outdoors fishing and bird hunting with his dogs and hunting buddies.
When Marys illnesses progressed, Jerry was a loving caregiver until her passing in 2004. A few years later, Jerry met Francene Blessman who has been his faithful companion for 13 years. They spent a lot of time together, enjoying going out to eat, playing cards and dominoes, traveling, and volunteering for St James Soup Kitchen and Hillcrest Transitional Housing.
Jerrys example to all of us, by the way he lived his life, was being a good family man and loyal to his country. He was easy-going, fun-loving with a good sense of humor (master of the one-liners) and had a contagious smile that would brighten up the whole room. These memories of his deep love for family and his joy will be in our hearts forever.
