Georgia F. Gerling, 86, passed away February 2, 2018. Private interment Calvary Cemetery. Georgia was a devoted Catholic, volunteering countless hours to the Church and charitable causes as well as coaching several sports including a number of professional bowlers. I life-long Missourian, Georgia graduated from Hogan High School in 1949 and worked in retail downtown Kansas City where she met her future husband, John, in 1950. After a brief time in Sedalia, they returned to Kansas City for good mostly residing in South KC. Georgia was a dedicated supporter of local businesses, many bowling alleys and our local casinos. She was also a passionate Royals fan who was very grateful to see them win a second World Series in 2015.Over her many years as a volunteer, she donated a great deal of time to St. Regis school and church, then later Norfleet Elementary and Raytown High School as an activities and athletic booster. Always happy to work with others, perhaps her lasting legacy is the strengths she brought out in those around her both as a leading organizer and behind the scenes supporter. Her giving spirit made her a friend to many and an enemy of none. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John S. Gerling. Georgia is survived by her son, Steven Gerling, daughter Jacqueline Gerling, grandsons Geoffrey Gerling and Nicholas Gorz, granddaughters Amethyst Collins and Kaity Stair and several great grandchildren.
