George Wayne Furrow

February 10, 1961 — August 21, 2025

Kansas City, Missouri

George Wayne Furrow, affectionately known as Wayne, left this world on August 21, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 64. Born on February 10, 1961, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Louise & George, Wayne's journey through life was not an easy one, as he was faced with many difficulties and hardships as a child, but he persisted with a quiet strength, a loving spirit, and an unwavering dedication to those he cherished. Any difficulty Wayne faced, in his youth or adulthood, never stopped him from reaching his goals and creating a happy life.

Wayne's educational journey culminated in a high school diploma from Lincoln, Nebraska, setting the groundwork for a life dedicated to service. His career primarily revolved around maintenance, grounds keeping, and sanitation--roles in which he exemplified a strong work ethic and a dedication to ensuring that environments were not only functional but also welcoming.

A notable chapter of Wayne's life unfolded in Columbia, Missouri, where destiny brought him together with his beloved wife, Carol. They met in the most charming of circumstances; Wayne became acquainted with Carol while she was attending classes and he was working as a maintenance man. His heart of gold showed through as he stopped to assist her with a broken shoe buckle on a bench—a simple act of kindness that sparked their love story. The two were married on December 23, 1993, and together they shared a life filled with love and companionship. Carol and Wayne's relationship is described by family as "a fittingly perfect match" as they both quirkily complemented each other so well in so many ways.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Ann (Whitney) Furrow; his stepsons Chad Van Zandt and wife Wendy, and Charles van Zandt IV, along with his mother, Louise. His life was enriched by the presence of his step-sons and their families, whose bond brought further joy and contentment into his days. They will carry forward his legacy of warmth, humor, and resilience.

Wayne's personality was a beacon of positivity. He had a remarkable ability to find joy in every little thing and approached life with a calm, laid-back attitude that made everyone around him feel at ease. He was never grouchy and always managed to see the good in every situation, which was perhaps one of the qualities that endeared him most to his loved ones.

Wayne had a passion for classic comedy; he delighted in the timeless humor of slapstick shows like The Three Stooges and The Abbott & Costello Show, providing moments filled with laughter. He was also a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan, proudly cheering for his team, hardly (if ever) missing a televised game and opportunity to watch his beloved Chiefs.

His family and friends will also remember Wayne for his sweet sense of humor and the love he had for those close to him, especially his dear wife, Carol. He is now reunited with his father, George Furrow, and brothers Charles, Roger, and Jack.

As we reflect on Wayne’s journey, we remember a man whose calming presence and love for life will live on. We remember him not just for his unwavering kindness or his love of humor, but for the extraordinary way he embraced life, always looking for the silver lining. His legacy of love, humor, and heartfelt connection will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have called him a friend, coworker, acquaintance or family member. Rest Easy, Wayne. You will be dearly missed.
