Obituary

George Edwards Hendren, Sr. was born on May 14, 1951, in Kansas City, Kansas, and died on October 7, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a wonderful, fun, loving, and supportive father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and dear friend.

George will be remembered as a man with a big heart, a sharp sense of humor, and a personality that was noticed in every room or gathering he attended. He was sarcastic, a jokester, and someone who loved the outdoors. He believed in making memories and finding new experiences, and he was accepting of everyone, treating people with respect as long as they showed respect in return. He loved his family deeply and spent as much time together as possible.

Some of the things George enjoyed most were simple and meaningful. He was a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan and did everything he could to be home in time to watch the games. He loved music and always had it playing, often carrying a speaker attached to his cane or his side-by-side. He enjoyed exploring different and unique foods and encouraged his children to be open to trying something new. He also thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and outdoor activities, especially when they meant spending time with friends and family.

Many favorite memories of George were made outdoors. Camping trips, fishing and hunting, and discovering new and unique swimming holes became lasting parts of family life because he wanted his children to have great memories. He enjoyed time at the lake surrounded by friends, family, good music, and great food. He also loved to spoil his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he was someone people turned to whenever they needed anything.

One of George’s proudest accomplishments was the family he helped raise, including his own children, step-children, and nieces and nephews. He pushed those he loved to be the best they could be, and he was never afraid to speak up when he felt someone was getting off course. His guidance, humor, generosity, and love will be remembered by all who knew him.

George is reunited in heaven with his parents, Taylor and Goldie (Ashleman) Hendren; his step-son Tyler Simmons; his siblings Taylor Hendren, William Hendren, Lee Roy Hendren, Oscar Hendren and Joseph Hendren. He is deeply missed by those he leaves behind: son George Hendren Jr., “Little George” (Marca Clark), daughter Shelly Martin (Kevin), step-son Matt Cox; his beloved grandchildren: Kristian Newnum, Kayla Wing, George Hendren III and Trevor Martin; his precious great grandchildren Nova Dangerfield, Luna Wing and Harper Martin; his nieces and nephews that he loved as his own: Kelly Roberts, Keith Roberts and Thomas Roberts; as well as many other deeply loved nieces, nephews, extended family and memorable friends.

A Celebration of Life for George will be held on October 25, 2026, with family-time at 12:00 p.m., and guests welcome from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 12810 E. Kentucky Rd, Independence, MO 64050.

George’s memory will live on in the stories, laughter, music, outdoor adventures, and family gatherings he made so special. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strong guidance, and unforgettable memories.
