Forrest (Mutt) Nathan Wombwell was born June 13, 1957 to Kenneth Ray Wombwell and Kathleen Joan (Gelski) Wombwell in Brookfield, MO. He passed away peacefully on August 13, 2021 in Kansas City, MO, surrounded by the love of those who now survive him. He attended grade school in various towns and graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, MO in 1975. Forrest enlisted in the Navy after graduation from Central and served five years throughout the East Coast and Scotland before joining the reserves. While in the Navy he took on the title of "PH1 Photographers Mate." He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 25 faithful years. He attended the University of Missouri where he earned his Bachelors degree in journalism in 1985.
Forrest was married on July 18, 1998 to Patricia Ann (Koch) Wombwell. To this union they had one child: Laura Jean. He began working for NCM just after their wedding and was once again called into active duty in 2000 which took him to Yokohama, Japan until 2002. After his arrival home to Kansas City, he continued his work with NCM where his coworkers considered him a company favorite.
He enjoyed reading anything history related, particularly Presidential biographies, and would find any time he could to do so. On the weekends he found joy in taking bike rides with his daughter and watching the Royals or Chiefs, depending on the season. Forrest especially loved cheering on the Bishop Miege Stags on Friday nights during the years 2014-2018 while Laura attended school. Alongside the football games, he never missed seeing his daughter run track, play tennis, or perform on stage for choir and theatre. He loved to travel and to seek out new adventures with Pat by his side. His favorite trip was an Alaskan cruise which included a fantastic bike ride and buffet.
Forrest is lovingly survived by his wife, Patricia Wombwell, daughter Laura (intended Calder Knapp) Wombwell (Columbia, MO), Stuart (Jamie) Wombwell (St. Joe, MO); Ann (Roger) Wilson (St. Joe, MO); Shelby Jo (Margot) Wombwell (St. Joe, MO); Craig (Deborah) Wombwell (St. Joe, MO); Travis (Becky) Wombwell (Macon, MO); Sue (Rodney) OMeara (St. Joe, MO) and 10 nieces and nephews. He will always be held close in the hearts of friends and family. Forrest was met at Heaven's Gates by his parents, Kenneth and Kathleen, along with his in-laws, Al and Melva Koch.
