Eugene 'Gene' O. Livingston

Eugene "Gene" Orville Livingston, age 85, passed away Wednesday, November 15th, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born August 14th, 1932 to Berne and Cora Livingston and raised in Kansas City with his siblings Delores, Maurice, and Bill.
Gene graduated with a Bachelors degree in Philosophy from Rockhurst College, and a Masters degree in Counseling and Guidance from University of Missouri-Kansas City. He married his "wife and guide," Mary Breitenstein, on August, 31st 1957. Together, they raised four wonderful children. Gene was a man of strong Catholic faith, attending St. James, St. Francis Xavier, and St. John Francis Regis parishes at different points in his life. Gene served in the U.S. Navy before beginning his 30-year career at the Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City. Genes favorite hobbies included "reading and pursuing further appreciation of truth in the areas of philosophy, science, and religion," playing baseball in his youth, tennis in later years, and, of course, attending and canoeing in the annual Livingston Family Float Trips.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Berne Orville and Cora Marie (Becker); siblings: Delores, Maurice, and Bill; and three children, Cynthia, Mary Theresa, and Joseph. Gene is survived by his "greatest joys in life": his wife, Mary; children: Christine (Mary), Steve (Helen), Patty (Mike), and Scott (Catherine); ten grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he all loved dearly.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. followed immediately by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Regis Catholic Church, 8941 James A Reed Road, Kansas City, MO 64138. Memorial Contributions are welcome to go the Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145, and/or St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, 8941 James A Reed Road, Kansas City, MO 64138.
