Elmo 'Moe' Courville

Moe Courville, 87, passed away July 3, 2018, at home with his family at his side. Visitation will be Friday, July 13th at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes, Kansas City. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m.Moe was born in Zurich, KS, June 3, 1931, to Leon and Evelina (Forgue) Courville. He was raised in Concordia, KS graduating from Notre Dame High School. After high school, he completed a 3-year tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. After his tour of duty, Moe attended the University of Kansas graduating in 1958 with a degree in Personnel Management. He excelled and enjoyed sports throughout his lifetime with a highlight being a walk-on for the KU men's basketball team.Moe joined JC Nichols as a residential sales associate in 1962 and after a long career in real estate retired in 1996 as assistant vice-president. Over the course of his career, he was a top salesman numerous times, including Kansas City Salesman of the Year in 1972 and Missouri Real Estate Salesman of the Year in 1975. He served in leadership positions on various real estate boards and commissions, including Missouri Association of Realtors and Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City.Moe loved his church home, St. Thomas More, where he had been a member for the last 47 years. He served as parish council chairman, chairman and member of the parish steering committee, parish vocation chairman and Eucharistic minister. Moe was a "self-appointed" landscaper for the church and was passionately involved in the aesthetics for the church campus, planting numerous trees and shrubs over the years. Moe was recognized for his service by receiving the Bishop's Award. Moe volunteered for a variety of organizations. He was a member of the Serra Club of Kansas City, serving as president in 1995-96, the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, member of the advisory board for Seton Center, and a volunteer in spiritual care at St. Joseph Hospital for 11 years.Moe was a loving husband, proud father, the best Papa to his grandkids and a great friend to many. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bobbi, of the home and his 5 children: Susan Black, Denise McCarthy, Barbara (Kevin) O'Toole, Michael (Jenny) Courville, and Rob Courville; 11 grandchildren: Katie and Lauren Black, Molly and Jack McCarthy, Colleen, Megan and Ryan O'Toole, Nolan and Addison Courville, and Tillie and Teddy Courville. He is also survived by his brother Don (Johnita) Courville and his sister Ina (Dale) Garrison as well as many nieces and nephews. Moe was preceded in death by his parents.The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caretakers and staff at Kansas City Hospice for their loving care and to the many friends for their prayers and support. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to St. Thomas More Church or Seton Center.
