Donald Scheier

Don Scheier, 89, of south Kansas City, passed away on Feb. 14, 2020. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 19 at 10:00 am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, at St. Catherine of Siena Parish 4101 E 105th Terr., KCMO. Interment will be at St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery, 61st and Quivira, Shawnee, KS, at 2:00 pm. Family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Don was born on Nov. 21, 1930, in Kansas City, MO, the youngest of 8 boys & 2 girls, to George and Mary Scheier. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Donald Jr. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Connor) Scheier, sons; Evan (Martha), Jerry (Cindy), and Eric (Janet), 12 Grandchildren; Amanda (Paul) Maniscalco, Kevin (Kendra), Brian, Zachary, Benjamin, Noah, Abigail, Theresa, Clare, Alex, Garrett, Erica, and 1 great grandchild (Max).
Don attended Kansas City Junior College and Rockhurst College, after which he joined the Navy.He served 4 years during the Korean war, both in Key Port, WA and aboard a PC 564 in New London, CT.For most of his professional career, Don worked at Johnson Food Equipment as a design engineer where he acquired several patents for food processing equipment designs.
Don was a member of St. Catherines Parish for 57 years, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Marriage Prep Leader, and on the Dream Team and Building Committee. He was also an accomplished cabinet maker and woodworker.
