Don Quinton Beggs

May 18, 1948 — May 13, 2025

Kansas City, MO, and formerly Maryville, MO

Donald Quinton Beggs, 76, of Kansas City, Missouri, and formerly of Maryville, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2025. Don was born on May 18, 1948, in Maryville, Missouri, to Quinton and Wanda Beggs. He grew up in Maryville, attending Horace Mann School and graduating from Maryville High School in 1966. He often shared fond memories of delivering the Daily Forum, spending time at the Tivoli Theater and city pool, and the friendships he made throughout his school years.

Don entered the Air Force for four years in 1966. It was during the Vietnam War, and he decided to choose where to serve rather than be drafted. He first went to Lackland Air Force Base in Texas for basic training, then to Amarillo, Texas, on to Omaha, Nebraska's Offutt Air Force Base, and finally to U-Tapao Air Force Base in Thailand, where he refueled B-52 bombers. He enjoyed his time in Thailand, recalling those days with many memorable stories, and always wanted to return, which unfortunately never happened.

He finished out his Air Force years and returned to Maryville, where he started college at Northwest Missouri State University. He earned both his undergraduate degree and MBA in 1975. He made many friends during those years, forging relationships that lasted the rest of his life. Don moved to Kansas City, and after a short stint with Whitehall Laboratories—selling such things as Preparation H and more—he took a career position at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City in 1976. He served in many capacities during his tenure there. Looking for a change, he left the Federal Reserve and went to work at Livers Bronze Company, joining the family business.

In 1980, Don met Charlie Livers, whom he married in 2017. They spent 45 years together, raising countless Whippet dogs and cats over the years. Don's trusty Whippet, Dusty, was by his side when he took his last breath. He loved all of his faithful companions.

Don never knew a stranger and had friends that spanned every stage of his life. He loved his home in Kansas City as well as his cabin in the Ozarks (“Mockwood”) and the beachfront home in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Music was a big part of Don’s life. He appreciated all types of music, loved to sing, dance, and enjoy the company of friends. He had a strong gift for geography and maps, earning him the nickname “Randy McNally.” His political views were well known, and he could debate anyone with ease. He always respected others' opinions—as long as they were based on facts. He was a proud liberal in every sense of the word.

Family was everything to Don—both his own and the extended Livers family. He loved all of you.

Don is survived by his husband, Charlie Livers of Kansas City; his sisters, Sue Fetters and Patricia Bare; seven nephews; two nieces; six great-nieces; and five great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jay Beggs.

Don will be remembered for his devotion to family and friends, his lifelong ties to Maryville, and the stories he loved to tell from a well-lived life.

Think of him fondly, keep the music playing and always be spontaneous in life - he had a big heart that always had room for everyone. Peace and love to all of you.

There will be a memorial at the home on July 12th 2025. Additional details will be forthcoming at a later date.
