Don J. Cipolla, Age 88 passed away Sunday, September 2nd at home surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 am Friday, September 7th at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road, KCMO 64131 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Don was born February 4, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri, the oldest of four children born to Pete and Mary (Bengimina) Cipolla. Like his father and brother, Don worked in the meat industry his entire career mostly with A&P Grocery and later with PDI meat distributors.
Don was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. He is preceded in death by his parents. Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Antoinette (Carrollo) Cipolla. Six children; Donna Blankenship and husband Kelly, Peter Charles and wife Kathy, Dominic and wife Julie, Steven, Michael, John and wife Paula, his brother Marion Cipolla and wife Mary and sisters Rosemary Sandridge and husband Edward, Joann Nye, and cousin Anthony Bengimina and wife Patricia, plus 9 grandchildren; Eddie & Jason Cosler, Christina Tetuan, John Cipolla, Jr., Dominic, Andrew, Matthew, Joshua and Joseph Cipolla. 5 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews.
Don carried a strong character, work ethic and love of family which he passed along to all of his children.
The family would like to thank Nancy Washburn and the team at KU Cancer Center as well as the staff at Brookdale Wornall Place, and Crossroads Hospice for their excellent care of and compassion for our father.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to St. Jude Cancer Center For Kids (stjude.org) and The Alzheimers Foundation (alzfdn.org). Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.MuehlebachChapel.com.
