We are saddened to share that after 92 years, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend, Dennis “Denny” Grampsas, has gone to his place of rest. Denny passed peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of June 30, 2026. He lived a long, vibrant life filled with joy, and Denny’s legacy continues to inspire us every day.

Denny was born on December 19, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri, to his parents Spiro Grampsas and Sophia (Kalage) Grampsas. He was one of five children, having three sisters and one brother. Denny’s parents immigrated from Zakynthos Island, Greece, having himself and his siblings as first-generation Americans. He was extremely proud of his Greek heritage. Denny, as 1st born male to the eldest son, he inherited the family property on Zakynthos Island Greece. Since Denny did not live in Greece, nor did he plan to relocate to Greece, he gave ownership of the olive grove & land to the family still living in Greece. Today the olive grove is a vineyard & home of the Grampsas Winery.

It was in 1969 that Denny experienced the joy and pride of becoming a father, when his twin boys were born. Not long after, he met the love of his life, Shirley Mundy. They married and built a beautiful life together with their boys, spending lots of time traveling to California & Colorado to visit family. There were also plenty of trips to Nebraska for the Horse races at Ak-Aar-Ben & Grand Island with Shirley’s brother & sister and their spouses Bud & Flora Mundy, & Ann & Doug Shelton.

Denny was mostly well-known for ownership of the Brooksider Bar in the Brookside area of Kansas City for decades. There are many fond memories of his time at the Brooksider. But as many of you know, family and friends were the cornerstone of Denny’s existence; he cherished nothing more than the time spent with his sons, Troy and Dennis, along with his daughter-in-law, Shari, his beloved five grandchildren: Cameron, Carson, Brock, Saige, and Cager; as well as his two great-grandchildren, Tristan and Zoe; along with his grand-daughters-in-law, Alyshia and Rebecca. Although Denny’s love for the game of golf, the Kansas City Royals, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas Jayhawks brought him equal delight! As did the annual Greek Picnic at Lake Jacomo in the heat of the summer.

During this transition, we kindly request your thoughts, prayers, and loving energy for all of Denny’s surviving family, who will all miss him dearly. Although our hearts are heavy, our family celebrates his journey to eternal peace where he is now lovingly reunited with his dear wife, Shirley, his parents, Spiro and Sophia; his sisters Helen, Nia, Katherine, and his little brother, Big Tony.

Also, a special thank you to his nieces, Nancy, Debbie and their families for all the love and support they gave to all of us through this difficult year.

All services will be held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 12001 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. The Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the Funeral following at 11:00 a.m. There will be no formal procession to Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery, where Denny will be laid to rest with his family.
