Dave Ragan

Robert David Ragan passed away peacefully on the morning of February 7th 2018. Dave was born on January 10th 1934 at home in Independence, Missouri. Dave was the 5th son of John Gilbert Ragan and Agnes Katherine (Kelly). Dave graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1952 and went on to study History at Rockhurst College before earning a Master's of Science in Social Work at the University of Missouri - Columbia in 1965.

Dave devoted his life to the service of others. First working with the Missouri Bureau for the Blind, he went on to open the Midwest Regional Office for the Foundation for the Blind in the late sixties. He then began a forty-one year career with the Health and Human Services division of the Federal Government working in Chicago, Minneapolis and then back home in Kansas City in 1986 where he worked until his retirement in 2010. Dave was proud to serve as a multi-term President of the NTEU.

Dave was pre-deceased by his parents and four older brothers - Jack, Kelly, Bill and Jim. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-six years, Judy (Logan) Ragan as well as three children - daughters Kelly and Josephine and son John. Dave loved his five grandchildren - Ragan, Max, Eira, Aldo and Edie along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Dave was a devout member of Visitation parish for over 30 years. He earned Eagle Scout in the tribe of Mic-O-Say and was an avid baseball player as well as a booster of MU sports. Dave loved hunting morel mushrooms in Sugar Creek with his brothers and was always up for talking politics. He will be missed by his family and those he served.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am Saturday, February 10th at Visitation Parish, 5141 Main St., Kansas City, MO followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, please consider the Heart of America chapter of the Alzheimer's Association of America.
