Dan J. Holmes

Dan J. Holmes, 80, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on September 23, 2017. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 28th from 6:00-7:30pm at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave, KCMO.
Dan was born on March 14, 1937 in Marshall, MO, to John and Eunice (Skaggs) Holmes. Dan was the fifth of eleven children. He was raised in Northeast Kansas City, MO, where he attended St. Stephens Catholic School and graduated from Cardinal Glennon High School. In high school, Dan was known as a great catcher for the baseball team, and as an asset to the football team. His love of sports carried throughout his life, being a devoted fan to the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. After high school, Dan joined the United States Army. He spent time in the country of Panama working on the canal.
Later in his life, Dan attended Rockhurst University where he took night classes and earned his Bachelors Degree. Dan spent over 25 years working with Trans World Airlines (TWA) now American Airlines. Upon retirement, Dan had served as TWAs Chief Financial Officer. Dan enjoyed his early retirement since it meant more time for golfing and attending the horse races.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bernie, Herbie, and Tommy Holmes; along with his sister, Marty Rooney. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Neal) Holmes; sons, Matthew Holmes and wife Markie Jo, and Andrew Holmes and wife Ashley; grandchildren, Daniel, Brent, Benjamin, Joel, and Trystan Holmes; siblings, Barbara Raveill, Mary Jane Zych, Robert Holmes, Jimmy Joe Holmes, Mike Holmes, and Tim Holmes; as well as many, many beloved nieces and nephews.
