Alice Marie O'Bryan Umphress

Alice Marie OBryan Umphress, 81, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2017. The rosary will be prayed at 4pm Fri., Nov. 17th at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave, KCMO, followed by visitation until 6pm. High Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am Sat., Nov. 18th at Old St. Patrick Oratory, 806 Cherry, KCMO. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Old St. Patrick Oratory.Alice was born November 15, 1935 in Kansas City, MO to John and Concepcion (Ortiz) Diaz. She attended St. Teresas Academy, and later worked as an Executive Secretary for Sen. Robert Dole at the U.S. Senate, and as an officer of the U.S. Customs Service. Alice lost her parents to tuberculosis at three years old, and was raised at St. Joseph's orphanage with her two sisters. Her inner strength came from her deep faith in God, instilled at the orphanage, and was a defining character of hers. This was displayed by her incredible spirit which more than compensated for a lifetime of physical adversity. We will remember her for her abundant love, her deep compassion, and her persistent encouragement to us all. Her impact on this world, and the legacy she built, will be revered across generations. We love you Mema!Alice's parents, her grandmother, Micaela Ortiz, and her first husband, Jim OBryan, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Bob Umphress; children, Karyn O'Bryan, Kevin O'Bryan and wife Michele, and Sean OBryan; step-children, Kathleen Fearon and husband Bruce, Sheryl Latham and husband Jason, and Karen Snedden and husband Shawn; grandchildren, Duncan O'Bryan and wife Star, Cooper O'Bryan, Daisy O'Bryan, Micaela O'Bryan and Charlie O'Bryan; step-grandchildren, Chase Fearon, Delaney Fearon, Andrew Snedden, and Lauren Snedden; great granddaughter, June Alice O'Bryan; and two sisters, Henrie Hiott and Gloria Lupkey.




A High Requiem Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated by Father Canon Francis Xavier Attiere.
