Paul J. Warrington Sr.

Paul J. Warrington, Sr., age 97, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Leawood on January 16, 2022. All services will be held at United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Wesley Covenant Chapel, Building C, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, Kansas 66224 on Saturday, February 5th. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life service following at 11:00 a.m.
Paul was born in Kansas City on June 5, 1924. In June of 1941, he became an Eagle Scout, graduated from Paseo High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
After graduating Navy Signal School, he reported to the U.S. Navy Armed Guard San Francisco at Treasure Island where he served on two merchant Texaco oil tankers and one foreign ship, Panama United Fruit Co.
Paul then transferred to U.S. Navy Armed Guard Center in New Orleans, LA. He served on one foreign ship, five U.S. merchant ships in the Pacific west coast to Alaska, Mexico, Central and South America and Panama Canal. His New Orleans ships went to Gulf of Mexico, Central America, South America, Western Atlantic, East Coast U.S., Canada, Newfoundland, Iceland, Ireland, England, Mediterranean, North Africa, Burma, Gibraltar, France, Italy, England, Sicily, Suez Canal, West Africa, South Africa Cape Town, Iraq, Iran, Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean and India. When he separated from the U.S. Navy in October 1945, his rank was Signalman First Class USN.
After his discharge he joined the Kansas City Police Department. He married Vivian Blain on April 24, 1948. Paul, Jr. was born in 1949.
Paul was in the Reserves and was assigned to Pusan, Korea when he was called back for the Korean War. He was in charge of the U.S. Navy signal tower at the breakwater. Paul was transferred to the U.S. Army to Tokyo Japan Criminal Investigative Laboratory Central Identification Unit.
In 1952 Paul was released to inactive duty with the rank of Quarter Master Signalman First Class USN Reserve. LuAnn was born in 1954. He received an honorable discharge from inactive duty in 1957.
Paul worked in Plan Protection at the Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 10 years and served as Regional Director of his union. After Westinghouse closed in 1962, he became a special agent for Chicago Great Western Railway. He went to night school at Rockhurst College and received his B.S. degree in Business Administration in June 1971.
Paul was a Scoutmaster for the same troop he began scouting. He was initiated into Country Club Masonic Lodge #656 and became a Master Mason in 1954 and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in 1955. On July 3, 1976 he became a Shriner in the Imperial Potentates class.
He became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Worthy Patron of Park Chapter #327
Paul and Vivian traveled the US and overseas with the Order of the Eastern Star and Pauls US Navy Armed Guard group.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, in 2019 after 70 years of marriage, and a son, Paul in 2010. Survivors include daughter LuAnn Warrington (Ron Mustard); grandchildren Bradley (Alana) Hargrave and Lacey (Joe) McGuirk and great grandchildren Isla, Owen and Mason Hargrave and, John and Thomas McGuirk.
