Norbert F. Dechant

Norbert Dechant, 79, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away October 24, 2014. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29th at Visitation Parish, 5141 Main St., Kansas City, Missouri; beginning with the rosary at 11:00. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 p.m.

Norb was born on February 20, 1935 to William and Germaine Dechant. Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Larry Dechant; and sister, Norma Schmeidler. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Peggy, and his children, Debbie Dechant, Todd Dechant (Margaret), Dan Dechant, Kate Preston (Scott), Tim Dechant, and his grandchildren Taylor, Jack, and Lexi Dechant, and Matt and Hannah Preston.

Norb graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in Hays, Kansas, and attended Rockhurst College, after which he proudly served in the United States Army. Norbert spent the majority of his career as part owner and Vice President/General Manager of Cassell Trucking. He also served as the President of the Kansas Motor Carriers Association for several years. Norbert was an active and dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus.

As a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Norb will be remembered for his gentle strength and kind spirit. He had a passion for family, and will be missed by all of those who loved him.
