Nancy Ellen (Owens) Hodes, 66, passed away Dec. 21, 2018, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 9-10am Friday, January 4th at Church of the Ascension, 9510 W. 127th St., Overland Park, KS followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10am.She was born March 30, 1952, in Kansas City, Mo., and attended Loretto Academy, Southwest High School and Creighton University before earning her BS as a registered nurse at Avila College. She worked for Baptist Medical Center, then Research Medical Center for many years, primarily as an oncology and infectious disease nurse.
Nancy loved books, music and the arts. She had a way with words, penning memorable letters and thank you notes. For years, she was the family photographer, often catching subjects with a mouthful of food. She was smart, funny, beautiful and loved, even in the hard times.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Richard L. and Maxine Owens; her sisters, Julie Lise and Mary Shanahan; and her grandsons, Jude and Whit Hodes. She is survived by her brother, Richard M. Owens (Amy); brother-in-law Mike Shanahan; children Monica Hodes-Smail (Eric), Eric Hodes (Eliza), and Emily Gretzinger (John); and grandchildren Reagan, Caroline and Henry Gretzinger.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Call in Kansas City, 9091 State Line Rd, Kansas City, MO 64114.
