Marie C. Sweeney

Marie Sweeney passed away at 103 in Leawood on November 22, 2020 . The funeral liturgy will be held at Nativity Catholic Church on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 11:00 am. Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A livestream will be available through the Nativity's YouTube page which can be found on their website.
Marie was born May 3, 1917 in KC to Nicholas & Josephine Arcury. She grew up in Northeast KC and attended Holy Cross Catholic School. Marie graduated from St. Teresa's College with an AA degree. Marie worked several jobs, and became a Red Cross Nurse during WW II. She married William Sweeney in 1947, living in KC for 20 yrs. before a job transfer to New Orleans for 13 happy years. They retired and returned to KC in 1984. Marie volunteered at St. Joseph's Hospital for 25 years. Marie was a resident of the Healthcare Resort in Leawood. Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 2002, after almost 55 years of marriage; her sister, Katherine, and brother, Lawrence. Survivors include her children: Dennis Sweeney (Joanne) KC, Kathleen Hora (Richard) Ankeny, IA, and Rita Sweeney, KC. Maries grandchildren are: Matt Sweeney (Lael) Indianapolis, IN, Bridget Logan (Jeff) KC, Kate Sanders (Bryan) Atlanta, GA, and Andrea Rodgers (Joe) Waukee, IA. Her great-grandchildren include: Rachel and Jackson Sweeney (IN), Sophie and Lily Logan (KC), Adyson and Caroline Sanders (GA), Logan and Krissa Rodgers (IA).
