Kathleen Shaughnessy Connor

May 10, 1932 — February 12, 2018

Kathleen Shaughnessy Connor died peacefully from complications from the flu while surrounded by family on February 12, 2018. Her wake will be at Visitation Catholic Church, where she was a member for over 60 years, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 15th. The wake will start with a Rosary at 5 p.m. Kathleens Funeral Mass will be held at Visitation on Friday, February 16th at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Kathleen was born in Kansas City, MO, on May 10, 1932 to Joseph B. and Frances (Shepherd) Shaughnessy. She was the second in the family of three spirited sisters, Mary Rose Shaughnessy (buried on Monday), Carol (Bob - deceased) Miller, and a younger brother, Joseph (Pat) Shaughnessy Jr., both deceased.
Kathleen attended Fontbonne University and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in education in 1952. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority at KU.
She married the love of her life Richard B. Connor on June 10, 1957. He proposed to her in front of the Blessed Virgin Mary statue at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. They were married for 60 short years.
The joy of her life was her children, five boys and a girl, Keith (Julie Rohling); Keiths predeceased wife, Mary Beth Hudak; Fr. Brian, Lincoln, NE; Kevin (Anne Bolen); Brennan (Kari Kleinschmidt), Seattle, WA; Malachy (Kilmeny Waterman); and Mary Kate (Eric Rubin), Washington, DC. She made them each an afghan with a mascot for the foot of their bed as they went off to college (with a preference for Jayhawks). No one loves you as much as your own mother.
She loved to play tennis at the Carriage Club and passed her love of the game onto her children. In later years she enjoyed watching her grandchildren play too. She traveled the world with her husband beginning in their early 50s. She was a lifelong learner, loved music and shared a fondness of reading with many friends and family. She was frequently seen on her scooter making her way to and from bridge games and family dinners.
She leaves behind her husband, her six children and nineteen grandchildren. She lived a faith-filled life and will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Among her proudest moments was the ordination to the priesthood of her son, Fr. Brian Connor. Fr. Connor will preside at the Mass celebrating the life of his gracious and loving mother. Contributions may be made to the Kathleen S. Connor Memorial Scholarship at St. Teresas Academy, Visitation Saint Vincent de Paul Society.
