Jan Paluga Conrad

July 16, 1948 — September 20, 2016

Jan (Paluga) Conrad
1948 - 2016
Jan Conrad, 68, of Overland Park, KS, passed away September 20, 2016 surrounded by love and prayers of her caring family. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 pm with the Rosary being prayed at 12:30 pm, Sunday, September 25th at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be given to the Tubular Sclerosis Alliance, 801 Roeder Rd., Ste. 750, Silver Springs, MD 20910.
Jan was born July 16, 1948 in Kansas City, Mo at St. Mary's Hospital to John and Mary "Betty" Paluga. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Kent Paluga, and a nephew, Andy Mason. She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Natalie Gaddy and husband Jeff; son, Joe; two granddaughters, Madison and Summer; her siblings, Jack Paluga, Robin Dressler, Sally Harper, Jeff Paluga, Chad Paluga and Alice Mason; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jan was a devoted mother and grandmother. She exemplified the maternal instinct and often gained strength and understanding with her belief and devotion to the Virgin Mary. She held a deep love for her home town, Kansas City, the Plaza, the fountains, the sports teams, the St. Patrick's Day Parade and most of all, the people. It was the only place she ever wanted to live. She possessed a strong fondness for the Pacific Ocean (especially at sunset), bright full moons, Boston Ferns, Motown Music, anything navy blue, family reunions, a game of hearts, corn beef and cabbage, To Kill a Mockingbird, Bravo television and documenting national events with her VCR. She had an affinity for breaking news, local news or anything that had to do with news. She retained a sense of pride for her time working at the KC Star.
She enjoyed spending too much while shopping for her granddaughters, she savored braunschweiger on pumpernickel rye, every year she would overload her Christmas tree with an unsafe amount of lights and ornaments. One could not calibrate her love of Christmas. She had an amity for dogs, having owned 9 of them. Friends and family remember a time when her front door was rarely locked, she didn't know a stranger and her house was a home for anybody who visited. She gripped life with intelligence, emotion and a kindred spirit for others. God surely broke the mold when he made Jan.
Mostly though, Jan was truly defined by the unconditional love she had for her family. She was a loving Nanny, wife, sister, aunt and friend. And above all else, she was Mom. "Miss you something crazy."
