James O'Neill Wright

May 31, 1931 — March 13, 2018

James ONeill Wright, 86, Kansas City, MO, passed away in his sleep under the watchful eye of his caring family on March 13, 2018. He was born in St. Louis, MO on May 31, 1931 and the only son of Harold Wright and Loretta Cooper. The rosary will be prayed at 5:30pm Friday, March 16th at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO followed by visitation until 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO on Saturday, March 17th at 10 a.m. followed by a brunch at Flanagan Hall. Interment with military honors will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Center for Advanced Heart Care at The University of Kansas Health System (giving.kansashealthsystem.com/tribute), Turning Point, and/or St. Lukes Hospice. Dad met the love of his life, Alice Jane Eldred, and they married on June 8, 1955. He graduated from John Carroll University and then served in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant, Platoon Leader/Amphibious Craft Officer from 1955-1957 at Fort Eustis, VA. Dad was a parishioner and volunteer at St. Thomas More, and he also volunteered at St. Joseph Health Center, Meals on Wheels, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. His career path included pharmaceutical sales, advertising and real estate, but his greatest personal contributions were his volunteer work at St. Thomas More and unwavering love, care and daily support of Mom.Survivors include his wife, Alice Jane Wright; his children: Jim (Teresa), John (Buster/Lady), Jeff (Laura), Jessica, Jay (Holly); grandchildren: Jason (Jenny), Mike (Christie), Megan, Brennan, John, Andrew and Matt; great grandchildren; Summer, Carter and Jack. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the exceptional home care provided by St. Lukes Hospice and CareStaf "angels."
