Edward L. Shackelford Jr., 75, left this life peacefully on Sunday, July 15, surrounded by his loving family. All services will be held at St. Elizabeth Church, 2 E. 75th St., KCMO, on Wed., July 25th. Visitation will begin at 10am, with funeral service following at 11am. Edward, a treasured husband, father, and grandfather, retired to Kansas City in 2012 following a 40-year career overseeing plant operations for some of Americas popular snack foods such as Planters Peanuts, Cheez-Its, Saltine crackers and Grandmas Cookies. He was a man of few words, always thoughtful, fair and respected by those he managed.For 52 years, Edward was the loving and committed husband to his wife, Judy, and devoted father to his daughters, Kathleen, Debbie and Melissa. Edward or "Butch" as he was affectionately known loved sports, especially basketball, soccer and golf. He refereed soccer at the youth, high school and college levels throughout the 1980s and 1990s.Edward was passionately involved with his grandchildren, attending sporting and school events whenever possible and celebrating family holidays.He earned a bachelors degree in business administration from Virginia Tech and a masters in business administration from Georgia State University along with post-graduate studies at Old Dominion University and North Carolina State.Survivors include his wife, Judy, and three daughters: Kathleen Cooper and her husband Brad; Debbie Bednar and her husband William; and Melissa Scanlon and her husband, Matt. He was blessed with five grandchildren: James, Brandon, Kelsey, Kayleigh and Erin. Hes also survived by his brother, Jim Shackelford and his wife, Marilyn.He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward L. Shackelford Sr. and Marie Louise ("Mony"); and his uncle, ("Unk") Crowell C. Squire and Bette. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edwards name to the Alzheimers Association Heart of America Chapter, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208.
