Drolette Wiedeman

Drolette Ann Wiedeman (age 86) passed away on August 27, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Visitation Catholic Church 5141 Main St in Kansas City on Friday September 2nd at 2pm. There will be no wake. Interment will be held later in a private ceremony at Calvary Cemetery.Drolette lived a faith-filled life praying to St Gerard Majella, patron saint of expectant mothers, and then moved on to eternal life on the feast of St Monica, patron saint of mothers. Through her life she was loyal to her faith, her family and those she held dear, until her devastating fall only two weeks ago. At that time she picked up the cross, walked through her suffering, and fixed her eyes on her new life with our Lord which she peacefully and lovingly entered surrounded by her family.The family would like to thank Sr. Loretta McGuire for being one of God's vessels for Drolette in her final days and Dr Peter Holt, MD for his care over many years and especially in the final days. Special shout out to birthday buddy G.M.Drolette was a life long Kansas City resident. She graduated from Notre Dame de Sion High School and attended Marymount College in Tarrytown, New York. She was a member of Visitation Church for 54 years where she served on the Art and Environment Committee for several years. She was a Lady Grand Cross in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Her many interests include membership in the Kansas City Young Matrons, where she served on the Board and was a life member. She served on the Boards of the Fireside Committee of the K.C. Art Institute and the K.C. Symphony Women's Association where she volunteered many years at the original Trolley Barn and later Thrift Shops.She was a member of the Fellows of the Nelson Atkins Museum and Friends of the Conservatory of Music at UMKC. She was also a longtime member of the Carriage Club. She was a past Vice-President and Board member of the Catholic Charities Kansas City-St. Joseph and a past President and member of the Rockhurst University Library Guild. She also served as a Past President of the Beta Theta Pi Mother's Club at the University of Kansas. She was a founding board member of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary; a member of the Ladies of Charity of Greater Kansas City; auxiliary member of the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired and volunteered over 1,200 hours in the gift shop at Children's Mercy Hospital.She had also been intimately involved with St. Teresa's Academy, Visitation Grade School, Rockhurst High School and Seton Center. Drolette's desire to do volunteer work was second only to her love of being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Drolette is survived by her loving husband, Ted, of 64 years, and their six children. Ted Gerard Wiedeman and his wife Molly, Reeves W. Wiedeman and his wife Fifi, Alison Wiedeman Ward and her husband Scott, Kurt A. Wiedeman and his wife Kathleen, Dr. Richard W. Wiedeman and his wife Lorena, Amy Wiedeman Thompson and her husband Mark. She was "Nana" to her 21 grandchildren and 3 great grand children, all of whom she adored and who greatly loved her back.She was steadfast in the love of her family and in creating loving traditions for them: Baby Jesus' birthday, and a family gift exchange at Christmas and Tuesday family dinners at the Carriage Club pool.Survivors include her sister in law Sylvia "Dainty" Wiedeman, her sister in law Mary Alice Rogler, and numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her son, David and her parents Harold and Lolita Bradley.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children's Mercy Hospital, Rockhurst High School, Rockhurst University and St Teresa's Academy.
