Donald F. Dekat, 96, of Independence, MO passed Oct. 14, 2016. Visitation will be Oct. 23rd at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave, KCMO from 5-7pm, Rosary at 5:30pm, with Mic-O-Say Memorial Ceremony following. Mass of Christian Burial will be Mon., Oct. 24th at Nativity of Mary Church, 10017 E 36th Terr, Indep., MO at 10:00am. Entombment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Born on Sept. 29, 1920 in Flush, KS, the son of Henry and Johanna (Nuttman) Dekat. Donald graduated in 1939 from Flush High School, and moved to Kansas City to attend Sheet Metal School.
On Aug. 24, 1942 Don entered the Army Air Corp at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. He was stationed at Gulfport Field, MS, as an airplane and engine mechanic. Don was honorably discharged on Jan. 3, 1946 with the rank of Sergeant. He earned the Army Air Corp "Good Conduct Medal," the "Technicians Badge-AP Mechanic," a "Victory Medal," and the U.S.A.C. Training Command Sustineo Alas "Sustain The Wings" honor.
While in the service, Don married Ruth (Doll) on July 21, 1945. Together they had two sons and one daughter. Don and Ruth were married, a month shy, of 50 years.
Don was very involved in different clubs and organizations such as Knights of Columbus, Disabled VeteransErnestine Schumann-Heink Chapter #2, Manion Council, Fr. James L. Wallace Council #6794, Teamsters Local #338 Manor Bakery, American Legion-Tirey J. Ford Post #21 (Indep.), Homes Association Treasurer, AARP Tax Preparer, Holy Name Society of St. Joseph Catholic Church (Flush, KS), Holy Name Society & Usher of St. James Catholic Church (KCMO), Eucharistic Minister of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church (Indep.), Tribe of Mic-O-Say, and multiple roles and areas within Boy Scouts of America. He was also awarded the District Award of Merit by Blue Elk District and the Silver Beaver by the Heart of America Council.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth M. Dekat; sisters, Isabel Garies and Loretta Straub; and brothers, Arthur, Bernard, Cleo, and Gilbert. He is survived by a brother, Rev. Carl Dekat; sister, Dorene Taylor; sons, Joseph Dekat (Leona) and Patrick Dekat (Susan); daughter, Donna Kelley (Kent); grandsons, Joey Dekat (Jennifer) and Jerry Dekat (Teresa); granddaughter, Ruth Noah (Jason); and great grandchildren, Zoey and Aiden Dekat, and Katelyn and Zach Noah.


The Rosary will be prayed at 5:30pm, with a Mic-O-Say Memorial Service following.

The luncheon will follow the committal service at Mount Olivet Cemetery. SERVICES Visitation
