Our commitment at Muehlebach Funeral Home is to serve every person as we would want to be served and to help families honor their traditions and wishes with the highest standards.

“Each funeral is an opportunity to paint a picture of a life and a way to capture the essence of someone you love. Funerals help you acknowledge, remember and begin to heal” -Steve Pierce, President

History

Five decades ago, in June 1954, James V. “Bud” Harrington opened the doors of the Muehlebach Funeral Home to serve the neighborhoods at 68th Street and Troost Avenue. In 1954 Muehlebach Funeral Home also began offering prearranged funeral plans, one of the first funeral homes to do so in the United States. The idea took hold in Kansas City, and Muehlebach Funeral Home became a landmark at 6800 Troost Ave.

Entrance At that time there were very few businesses in what is now known as the Southtown and Brookside areas. As the community grew, so did the number of families selecting Muehlebach Funeral Home to help them in their time of need. Within a few years the first of several additions and renovations were made to the original building. These improvements were recognized by business peers as an indication of Muehlebach Funeral Home’s dedication to the community.

James S. Harrington joined his father’s business in 1963 and in 1977 was named president of the funeral home. He bought the business from his father in 1995. His father passed away in 2002. In 2001 Steve Pierce, a funeral director for 19 years, joined Jim Harrington in a leadership role at the funeral home. In July 2003, Steve and Nicole Pierce took over the operation of the funeral home. Jim Harrington continues to be active in the firm and owns and heads Preneed Muehlebach Inc.
